Broken Stud: Hell, I gots to go!

See you all on Thursday at the Coliseum Bar for the fourth annual No Sleep reunion.

  4. When is the Kegonsa Klassic reunion?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Rusty Blades

The long rink took a beating after the last snow fall not sure it will be up to K Klassic standards, may turn into a broom ball event instead

    ReplyDelete
  6. Broom Ball?

I'll brake out "Cold Ethel", game on!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. How' Ethel been haven't heard from her in awhile?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'll ask my wife if I can borrow her broom stick for the event.

Looking forward to Thursday morning next week, I'll be working on the itinerary over the weekend. Don't worry Barry, I'll build an extra 15 minutes just in case we can't get Dr. Ron's parking pass.

    ReplyDelete
  9. what time on thursday?? I need to know so I don't get to drunk on wednesday! Broomball might be a little safer for me. see ya all next week

    ReplyDelete
  10. im guessing somewhere around 8:30 or 9 have not talked to Dr Ron or Duct Tape yet. Im sure Dougie will enlighten us later this week end.

    ReplyDelete
  11. any scores yet from sec 6 fianl?

Well I'm sure a 7-0 whitewashing in the first week of the season has kept the RWD team out of the spotlight all season long. They also lost to Edgewood in their first game too. Two losses to 2 top 10 teams early in the season might have opened their eyes as to what it takes to become a winning program.

    ReplyDelete
  14. who won the Badger North? oh ya its the team that won last night, not the team cleaning out their locker room today!! Why to R-WD Best of Luck at state and don't let anybody tell you that you dont belong! Great Season Boys!

    ReplyDelete
  15. R_WD...Congrats on getting to state. Only 8 can say that. By the way......YOU SUCK..

    ReplyDelete
  16. I love the heartfelt gratitude of 7:23AM. A little animosity maybe from the Waunakee crowd for coming in second in Badger North?

    ReplyDelete
  17. On the one hand way to go RW-D, a trip to state is every high school players dream. On the otherhand, that Sectional was not as strong as say Section 6 or a few others. So yeah, I'd agree there is some jealousy from some strong programs that aren't going to state because they have to play in a significantly stronger Sectional. That's not unreasonable to think though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. maybe some people should get their acts together and have more than one division???? Its not rocket science...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Too much broom ball on Saturday night! I'll have to take the next few days to rest up for Thursday morning! The stage is now set, good luck to all the teams on Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am seeing a Middleton vs E. Memorial championship game. Huge win for section 6 if they can pull it off.....Oops almost forgot, what time does Stoughton play on Thursday? RWD congrats, but wow your draw sucks, at least you can say you made it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Maybe you should stick to cutting hair Floyd instead of picking the next state champion. ECM is unstoppable. I drink and can still figure that out.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I guess you figured wrong

    ReplyDelete
  23. would all you people from stoughton please stop camping in the rotunda, chanting, drumming on plastic buckets and waving signs...i had nothing to do with rick going to oregon, so stop crying and get on with it, thats what democracy looks like

    ReplyDelete
  24. Judge strikes down Walker's collective bargaining law.....Rick is coming back to Stoughton

  27. DOUGIE RESTART THIS BLOG FOR THE SEASON!

    ReplyDelete
  28. dougie, barry, rusty, hot, anybody?
    HELLO let the season begin

    ReplyDelete
  29. Who are the contenders this year in the Big Eight, Badger and Section 6 as a whole? I don't see the area being nearly as strong as last year. Verona has depth, but I think the Big Eight is wide open for the most part. Sun Prairie, Middleton, West and Janesville should all compete. In the Badger, I like Waunakee in the North and in the South, it would seem Oregon, Stoughton and Edgewood all have big shoes to fill as a result of graduation.

    ReplyDelete
  30. dougie is off the grid, spending time with mrs dougie now that dougie junior is off to college, same with broken stud. Saw rusty a couple of days ago he said he would be around. No idea where hot pockets has been, there have been sightings but nothing that can be confirmed. Unfortunately this may the end of the run.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Never fear, Rusty is still here! I'll be looking for Hot Pockets tomorrow night. He still has the "The Tournament" and owes me a copy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. NO HE DON'T Rusty, I will say it to your face

    ReplyDelete
  33. Get back to work Donny.

    ReplyDelete
  34. stoughton hanging in there with notre dame in the first period? what? i can see this team making it deep in the playoffs and possibly another state apperance. they have a very strong defense core but they are a little weak on the netminder side. should be fun to see how the season unrolls

    ReplyDelete
  35. Is D.C Everest actually a top 10 team or are they just getting some bounces there way?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Marquette getting some tough loses early on in the season...think they can come together and go back to state?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I believe that they are just getting some lucky bounces here and there..they lost to Wausau West last night 5-0?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Stoughton had a close call against Baraboo? 4-3 win in overtime? Is Stoughton falling or is Baraboo competing?

    ReplyDelete
  39. i think that stoughton needs a goalie before they can compete with alot of the better teams in the state. like NDA and GBU they need to get a good goalie before playoffs or you can say bye to there state chances.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think Oregon should turn the skates in early, 4-1 to edgewood at their home ice, lil hultsy gettin shifts late? vanko go practice your goal celebration in your ballet class.

    ReplyDelete
  41. How did oregons JV do against edge any studs coming up

    ReplyDelete
  42. oregon does not have a JV team but otherwise no studs

    ReplyDelete
  43. they had one last year but they graduated like 11 not enuff kids this year?

    ReplyDelete
  44. fleming stepped in and instead of having kids play jv he ripped out the jv teams stalls in the locker room and cut the kids.,....

    ReplyDelete
  45. any idea where the oregon goalie played last year, says he is a soph but can't find him on either oregon hs roster from last year definitely the top goalie in the south

    ReplyDelete
  46. 12:04 if that is true then it was a douche bag move

    ReplyDelete
  47. 4-2 oregon, stoughton out played them but couldn't stay out of the box. ice looked like crap again, are they having problems or is the extra water and lack of freezing part of the "home" rink advantage

    ReplyDelete
  48. Vanko's ballet class must have paid off last night

    ReplyDelete
  49. is stoughton a competitor this year? or are the bounces not going there way?

    ReplyDelete
  50. 2 0 Edgewood no Vanko dances tonight

    ReplyDelete
  51. Stoughton has goalie issues. They don't have solid tender between the pipes and will need to score a lot of goals in order to win since they will have a tough time keeping the puck out of the net. They have enough talent to skate with most teams but will have a hard time keeping oponents from scoring.

    ReplyDelete
  52. still looking for someone to coach us also!

    ReplyDelete
  53. stoughtons coach is a good coach its just goalie issues that the team has. they may have found a new kid we will just have to wait and see thursday after edgewood

    ReplyDelete
  54. coach will be fine he is doing the best with what he has why do you think rick went running at least he is smart enough to understand the importance of developing kids thru a jv program

    ReplyDelete
  55. Stoughton stuck with Edgewood and should of won that game. They just didnt have the legs in the third and in ot.

    ReplyDelete
  56. importance of a jv program? Oregon doesn"t have one now that the Rick and Brad shown has started in Oregon, and as far as te stoughton coach, he will be fine he just needs to show ALOT more disiplineto those kids! Alot of stupid penalaties, and too long of shifts for a couple of players, you can see it at the end of games they are gased>

    ReplyDelete
  57. According to the Stoughton newspaper Larson had 28 saves his very first full game in 4 years against a very offensive minded Edgewood team. I think this kid has a lot of potential in him and could carry Stoughton deep into the playoffs. Stoughton is becoming a dangerous but an under the radar team.

    ReplyDelete
  58. i will agree with ya on the Larson situation, but you should goto a game! Stoughton beats themselves alot with bad penalties, and extra long shifts. They need more discipline before they are considered dangerous. You cant see that in a newspaper!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Stick a fork in em, they're done!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Stoughton beating RWD...not even a good game if you were watching, didnt Edgewood lose to them? Whats going on in this state for hockey? Is Stoughton starting to play by beating RWD? or did they just get some lucky bounces?

    ReplyDelete
  61. they finally stayed out of the box, and didnt double shift players. amazing what happens when ya got fresh legs on every shift.

    ReplyDelete
  62. it has nothing to do with duble shifts or penaltys they ve been playing 6 on 5 all year its hard to win when you have 13 penaltys and only 6 of them are real if stoughton was not homered they would be 11-5 and leeding the b so

    ReplyDelete
  63. No it has nothing to do with double shifts, penalties or getting homered. Larson is doing a stand up job in a very tough situation. The kid needs to be given credit for his willingness to sacrafice his senior year for the good of the team. If you want to know the real reason that Stoughton is struggling........
    wait for it........
Ricky got worried and took his goalie with him.
Ask Brad he will tell you the real story.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Homered? Really. everyone thinks there team gets homered. Take the blinders off and see it for what it really is, the are not a good team. Larson is and could be the savior for this team. They might win one play off game now. But when it comes down to it they will get out coached at crunch time because there is NO discipline on that bench! Players will go back to double shifting and taking stupid penalties when they are getting beat. They panic and they have repeatally have shown it with lopsided 3rd periods. But really it is alot easier to just blame the refs than to try and correct things.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have seen the future of Stoughton Hockey, and it aint good.

    ReplyDelete
  66. They ought to change the name of this web site to "Trash Stoughton" that's all everybody does on here. I see there are a few writers, Barry, Rusty Blades, Hot Pockets that seem a little more objective when it comes to writing about Stoughton and other schools, without trashing them. All schools have rebuilding years.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hey 1:04 if you think this is trashing you should have been here in the early days. No team was safe, not that it was right but this really is quite tame. I think the problem is that only the Stoughton people are posting so it appears that it is skewed that way.

    ReplyDelete
  68. For Rusty Blades and Hot Pockets, I'll help you with the hard word:

Skew (verb \skyu\) : to distort especially from a true value or symmetrical form

Words that rhyme with skew: blue, brew, crew chew, flu

In a sentence: I knew it was a skew when I met the blue line crew for a brew and a chew but no one showed because they had the flu.

    ReplyDelete
  69. its stughton no big deal verona has all the winer parents what a bunch of babys thier the choosen ones just ask mom ad dad dont talk bad abut verona b/c they will get mad

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hey thanks for the help Merriam, that was a tough one to figure out, and was having trouble finding it in webster's edition.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Oooohhh, skewed. I thought it was Norwegian for screwed. You know, like getting skewed by the refs again.

    ReplyDelete
  72. We were skewed when we only had 4 beers left in the fridge? Is that a proper form?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hot Pockets, you will never get down to 4 beers. When it gets below a 12 pack your restocking it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I know Barry was pretty skewed Sunday when he stocked the fridge, that might have something to do with it. We'll work to avoid future problems.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Stoughton's program is in a world of hurt for the future. Rick and Brad did nothing to help build the youth program that fed their high school and now their youth program and youth nubers are going right down the tubes and their high school program will unfortunately follow suit. Now they have gone to Oregon where they are already tearign down what was a great new and building youth program. The youth program was becoming a GREAT place for youth hockey because of the previous high school coach (despite what a very small group of idiots believe). But Rick and Brad show no interest in the youth program, they encourage the good players to play elsewhere and the foxes are now running the hen house politically. It's really quite sad to see two youth programs being destroyed simultaneously by the same BS. And really it's too bad because Rick really does know hockey and if he'd just do a few things for the greater good of the overall program he could help it continue to succeed. But getting rid of JV and ripping apart everything that had been built wasn't the way to start off. Didn't he stop to think that Oregon had a bright future BECAUSE of the way things had been done by the previous people, did he not stop to think "hey, maybe they were doing something right? And maybe I should just try and add a SMALL twist but try and build on what was right instead of ripping eerything apart and rebuilding from scratch...maybe...." Sad indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Rick Flemming sucks, and Brad does too!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Don't ever try and rationalize anything Rick and Brad do, you'll go crazy trying to figure out why they do the things they do.

    ReplyDelete
  78. 9:48 I remember the parade through downtown Oregon when Rick decided to leave Stoughton ......Never burn your bridges till you come to them.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I tried burning the bridge over Badfish Creek once Rick and Brad moved, but I couldn't keep it lit.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Parade? What parade? The overwhelming majority of hockey families wanted to keep Tony Renlund and still miss him. It's a very very small and select few who accomplished ousting the former and bringing in the new regime. I hope they understand that they reap what they sow

    ReplyDelete
  81. Stoughton probably would of kept them if they knew, that they were going to get what they got

    ReplyDelete
  82. Stoughton did not get rid of them. They left on their own, Stoughton had no choice in the matter

    ReplyDelete
  83. the future isn't bright with what stoughton's got now, you'll see kids opt out else where

    ReplyDelete
  84. 2:08 Where are they going to opt out to, not like there are a lot of choices when if comes to high school hockey

    ReplyDelete
  85. hey Barry when is Stoughton gonna hang their conference runner-up banner in the rink, let me know when i wanna be there!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hope its not he same night that Oregon hangs theres

    ReplyDelete
  87. way to go e-wood beating wausau west tonite!! AWESOME

    ReplyDelete
  88. But i was told Rick and Brad were going to lead us to the promise land

    ReplyDelete
  89. I think it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said that the only game that counts is the last one.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Eleanor Roosevelt sucks, ask Teddy

    ReplyDelete
  91. I recently heard that Oregons stud defender is out with post concussion symptoms? Will he play tonight aganst Memerioal? can Oregon win without him, whats your thoughts or predictions?

    ReplyDelete
  92. The aforementioned Oregon defender has missed the past few games with an indeterminant ailment (PCS is not the official diagnosis). His availability for tonight's game against Memorial is TBD. Yes they can win without him, doesn't mean they will as it is high school sports but they definitely can. Sounds like he'll definitely be back for Thursday should they win.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Oregon is too strong in the pipes to lose to Memorial. They will be just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Broken
I'm pretty sure it was Brett Farve that said that in 2004 after the Eagles game, again in 2008 after the Giants game and finally in 2010 after the Saints game

    ReplyDelete
  95. It's playoff time....the second season......one and done.....and the final count down to Thursday at the Coliseum Bar.

Dougie has been off the grid for the last 13 weeks cause he has been in serious training .... rumor also has it that he was in the best shape of his life and has been doing mega research.....heard he will take all action so it is prediction time, who will be the final eight at the dance?

    ReplyDelete
  96. While its playoffs and anything can happen, you have to believe this is shaping up to be a Middleton v. Verona final. If it is, it will be a wild game as were their first two meetings this season. Whichever team makes it out of Section 6 then has a favorable match-up with probably the worst sectional in the state in the first round.

    ReplyDelete
  97. In my final eight I like Eau Claire Memorial, University School, DC Everest, Superior, Notre Dame, Verona, Onalaska and hmmmmm, Section 7 is the toughest one for me, no clear cut fave IMHO, think I'll go with Janesville as an semi-upset to get to state in what could possibly be Mauermann's final season......

    ReplyDelete
  98. 9:31, you really think Everest gets out of section 3? While they have a couple nice wins and a nice record, they have gotten hammered and shut-out by several teams, including Wausau West, Verona and even Onalaska. I agree with your other picks but see Everest losing to Wausau West in the sectional final.

    ReplyDelete
  99. 10:40, I agree whole heartedly that Wausau West is the best team in that section. The problem is we both know the best teams do not always win their section. This year it's just a hunch that I think Everest will pull the upset, but with that said if Wausau West makes it out of their section it will be of no great surprise.

  103. wait a minute , is Douige training for dancing with the stars? Is that what i heard?

    ReplyDelete
  104. if thats true then i wont play that game!

    ReplyDelete
  105. In Section 6 I'm going to call a Sun Prairie upset over Middleton, setting up a SP v. Verona final, with Verona headed to the Alliant Energy Center. Tonight EHS gives Waunakee a better game than they did in the last matchup, but the Ford brothers are too dominate for EHS and questionable goaltending.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Final 8 in March: ECM, Homestead, Wausau West, Marquette, New Richmond, GB Notre Dame, Onalaska, Verona. GB Notre Dame takes the title.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I have heard from a good source that Dougie is questionable for the opening morning skate at the Coliseum Bar. He may need some added pressure if he's going to make the line up on March 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Funny, but there's no whining in the papers about having to play the WIAA State Hockey Tournament at the Alliant Energy Center. Those poor poor basketball and wrestling players and fans. What ever will they do if they can't plant their panzy backsides in the Kohl? Welcome to the hell we've had to deal with forever you schmucks!

    ReplyDelete
  109. What a tournament it would be with hard ice and working scorboards.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Grumpy Old Goat,
Definately would not hear the whinning from the real hockey fans if they moved it to Green Bay. Of course would miss the Coliseum Bar on Thursday but have a feeling that Stadium View would be just as accommmodating.

One can wish but hockey is and always has been the WIAA's red headed step child.

    ReplyDelete
  111. On behalf of red headed step children everywhere, I think we are treated better than the WIAA treats hockey. If you are a fast, quick team, your strengths are nullified on the newly poured, soft slow ice at AEC. It has had a deciding impact on more than few WIAA tournament hockey games. That is flat out wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Looks like Sto can hang another Regional Championship banner right next to their JV Conference Championship banner

    ReplyDelete
  113. So much for my Everest hunch....LOL... looks like Wausau West from that region. Also, looks like Oregon is riding a hot goal tender. We know weird and exciting things can happen when a goal tender gets hot, especially a good goaltender like Oregon has.... Middleton is the better team IMHO but with a hot goaltender anything is possible, watch out Middleton you might be in for a fight

    ReplyDelete
  114. I see Sto out of section 7. we will see this being a good game next tuesday in marquette beats kenosha tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Great season edgewood.....syke, stoughton wins at edgewood and is already farther than them in the playoffs after the first week....brutal better luck next year

    ReplyDelete
  116. u beat e-wood in a meaningless game conference was already wrapped up don't start hanging that sectional runner up banner yet

    ReplyDelete
  117. Wanted: Goalie for Edgewood hockey. Must be able to stop a beachball!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Edgewood was really a jeckyll and hyde team this year. They got beat by teams they should have beaten and beat some teams that maybe they shouldn't have. As is typical, you're only as good as your goalie and at times theirs struggled. They still had a pretty good season and the team that eliminated them - Wuanakee, is no patsy, they have good scoring and a good goalie.

    ReplyDelete
  119. How long is the contract at the AEC? Once the WIAA sees the facilities at the Resch maybe they will understand what a shit hole the AEC is and that our boys deserve better. AEC use to be a top notch facility.......in the 70s.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Rusty,
Even you would not have had enough skates in the shop to help me last night. Very tough night in the McConnell house.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Does anyone see Sto with a chance tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  122. It's the Regional Finals of HIGH SCHOOL Hockey, everyone who has gotten this far has a CHANCE

    ReplyDelete
  123. Actually it's the Sectional semi finals,
and yes, anybody can beat anybody, that's
    why they play the game.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I agree anything can happen during playoffs but there appears to be many more mediocre teams than years past. Very few truly dominate teams. Many good teams with impressive wins but also bad losses. I think that makes it easier for the few truly dominate teams.

    ReplyDelete
  125. you play to win the game

    ReplyDelete
  126. Marquette is who we think they are. If ya wanna crown asses, then crown them.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Playoffs? Your talking playoffs? Playoffs

    ReplyDelete
  133. whats up no chatter from the stoughton faithful

    ReplyDelete
  134. what ya wanna chatter about? Basketball, Baseball, Golf? What? We have been listening about haow much we sux this year in hockey, so why would we wanna talk about that?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Here are Rusty's picks:

Game 1: Eau Claire Memorial over Brookfield
Game 2: Marquette over Wausau West
Game 3: Superior over Notre Dame
Game 4: Verona over Sparta (Barry's going down
    big time on this one)

    Game 5: Marquette over ECM
    Game 6: Superior over Verona

    Championship: Superior over Marquette

  139. So I'm no good at "bracketology". But I did know enough to take Verona over Sparta. C'mon Barry, that was too easy. I think Robbie said it best when he said "the Onalaska girls could beat Sparta". Easiest $5 I ever made. Oh and I think I should get ice cream too.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Seriousl how did Sparta beat Onalaska?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Lesson learned too much aiming fluid and swing oil during broom ball clouds one's judgement. I will uphold my end of the bet with you, broken and Robbie.

    ReplyDelete
  142. another year is over. But what a great championship game that was! congrats goes out to all the players. See ya next year.
